2023 Summer Training
|
Based on the time-tested Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction, this thirty-six hour course focuses on the problems associated with language learning disabilities and the special instructional needs of individuals with dyslexia. It provides a balanced approach to teaching literacy and provides instruction in the five essential components of effective reading programs as recommended by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension strategies.
The Orton-Gillingham teaching approach will be demonstrated, taught, and practiced. Participants receive daily practice in lesson planning, teaching techniques, and the structuring, sequencing, and logic of the English language which is useful for all students. Participants will also have opportunities to use a variety of materials that are effective when working with students that are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling.
